The Future of HR Awards, hosted by Topco Media & partner Careers24, seeks to recognise southern Africa’s most outstanding, inspiring and effective leaders in people management strategies & HR innovation through a range of awards categories for companies, CEOs, HR leaders & the public sector.
The lively 4th awards ceremony, hosted at Johannesburg’s new Capital on the Park hotel, attracted a diverse assembly ranging from razor-sharp comedian Nik Rabinowitz on MC duties to VIP Speaker Greg Solomon, McDonalds SA CEO, and a host of CEOs, government reps and media pundits. What they all had in common was an understanding of why HR luminaries should be celebrated; a point Topco CEO Ralf Fletcher touched on in his welcome speech, saying that in his experience, the best HR practitioners are able to build exceptional organisational cultures based on the factors essential for bottom-line performance: motivation, commitment, loyalty, teamwork and innovation:
“That ability is fundamental to the long-term growth success of a mid-size company. Now imagine what it must mean for the success of a large, possibly multinational organisation, with hundreds or thousands of employees?
Or what it must mean for South Africa’s big public sector enterprises and their mandate to fast-track service delivery to millions of South Africans?”
So what did winning the HR Tech Service Provider Of The Year Award mean for SmartHR – and what was their motivation for pursuing this specific award category?
According to Brendon Gas, CEO of SmartHR, “As the owners of SmartHR IP, we are in the fortunate position to be able to deploy our HR technology for non-profit organisations so that they too can benefit from best-of-breed HR management. We have found that donors are more likely to support and increase funding to these organisations where accurate people management is in place.
As one of our CSI initiatives, we are very pleased to support an NGO with 4 campuses near Hazyview, Mpumalanga. They enable rural scholars and graduates through digital learning to seize the possibilities of the online revolution irrespective of their location or financial status. SmartHR is used by the HR department to professionally manage their 150 staff. Our aim is also to train future HR stars that will be both tech savvy and people smart.
The future for SmartHR and Absalom Systems looks very bright. HR Technology is rapidly evolving and we are ideally placed to build on our history and help organisations realise the great human potential of our country.
The Future of HR Award would be a highly appreciated acknowledgement of the effort and dedication of the SmartHR team. The award would motivate and inspire us to continue on our journey towards HR Tech excellence.”
On the one hand southern African companies, business leaders & HR practitioners must continue to understand and leverage the influx of new HR tech solutions while, on the other, balancing this with the ability to maintain people – the best people – as the heart of their business strategy; something these awards’ judges and industry as a whole credit SmartHR with achieving in future-fit style.
